The Gradungulidae are a family of real spiders (Araneomorphae), which includes seven genera with a total of 16 species . The species occur in eastern Australia and New Zealand . They are medium-sized to large three-clawed spiders that, like the tarantulas (Mygalomorphae), have two pairs of book lungs . The species Gradungula sorenseni lives in the litter layer of forests. The two Progundula species are the only cribellate spiders in the family.

The spiders of the family weave extensive spider webs that have a living area above, from which threads are stretched to the scaffolding threads of the ladder-like trap, which in turn is glued to the ground.
