Graeme Barker

Graeme William Walter Barker (born October 23, 1946 ) is a British prehistorian .

Life

Barker studied prehistoric archeology in Cambridge and did his doctorate on prehistoric subsistence economies in central Italy . He taught at the University of Sheffield and was then director of the British School at Rome from 1984 to 1988 before he was appointed to the University of Leicester , where he became Head of the School of Archeology and Ancient History . In Leicester , he was also involved in university administration and was a pro-vice chancellor . Barker has been Disney Professor of Archeology at Cambridge since 2004 .

Barker's research interests lie in the area of environmental archeology , where he primarily investigated human-environment relationships under various natural spatial conditions. He has worked in the UK, Italy, Libya, Jordan, Mozambique and Borneo.

Barker is President of the Prehistoric Society in London. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and has been a member of the Academia Europaea since 2013 .
