The Graf-Aswin-Kaserne is a barracks of the Army of the Bundeswehr in the town of Bogen in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen in the state of Bavaria .

history

In 1958, combat group B4 moved into the newly built barracks .

From the battle group B 4 went Panzergrenadierbrigade 11 "Bayerwald" out. In 1993 the Panzer Grenadier Brigade was disbanded. At the same time the Pioneer Brigade 50 ("Main-Danube") was set up.

After the Pioneer Brigade 50, which was disbanded in 2001, the Medical Command IV set up in the same year is the third command that has moved into the Graf-Aswin barracks. As part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr , the IV medical command was decommissioned on December 8, 2014.

Naming

The barracks was for a Bogener named Earl, who distinguished himself by his bravery and ferocity and was considered "Böhm terror". Legend has it that he was also the founder of the well-known pilgrimage to the Bogenberg , the oldest Marian pilgrimage in Bavaria.

Site practice area

The on-site exercise area with an area of ​​72 hectares connects to the barracks in the south and lies between 328  m NN and 407  m NN. It lies exclusively in the area of ​​the city ​​of Bogen and is owned by the federal government. The majority (55%) is grassland with amelioration . The proportion of forest is 30%.
