Gralheira is a locality and former municipality in Portugal . It is the highest town in the Serra de Montemuro Mountains and one of the highest places in continental Portugal.

history

The place probably already existed in the Visigoth Empire . For a long time it was called Agralheira and belonged to the Ferreiros de Tendais district , as mentioned in its town charter of 1210. With the dissolution of the district in 1855, Gralheira became a parish of the Cinfães district.

As part of the municipal reorganization of Portugal , the municipalities of Gralheira, Ramires , Alhões and Bustelo were merged on September 29, 2013 to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Alhões, Bustelo, Gralheira e Ramires . Gralheira is the seat of this newly formed community.
