Grammistines are members of a family of proteins previously only found in soap bass . They are short oligopeptides with 13 to 28 amino acids that probably aggregate to form a homooligomer. The fish secrete the mixture of six or seven grammistines on the skin. The individual proteins have different effects; However, all of them have an antibacterial effect against both gram-negative and gram- positive germs, and some are also hemolytic or poisonous to fish . So far, amino acid sequences of the grammistine of six-striped sea bass ( Grammistes sexilineatus ) and snowflake sea bass ( Pogonoperca punctata ) are known.

The LD50 of Grammistin Gs F in dental pups is 1.9 µg / ml.
