Gran Teatro de La Habana
The Great Theater of Havana "Alicia Alonso" ( Spanish Gran Teatro de la Habana ) is an opera house that is now the home of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and the opera company of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Capitol of Havana , near Paseo.
history
The original building from 1838 was replaced in 1914 by the modern neo-baroque magnificent building. Earlier names of the cultural center were El gran Tacón (1838-1902), Gran Teatro Nacional (1902-1961), Teatro Federico García Lorca (1961-1977) and Liceo de La Habana Vieja (1977-1985). The building was renovated in 2015.
The great hall, now named after Federico García Lorca, can hold around 1500 people. Among others, the following performed here: Enrico Caruso , Fanny Elßler , Anna Pawlowa , La Argentina , Ruth St. Denis , Ted Shawn , Vicente Escudero , Maja Plissezkaja , Clorinda Corradi , Sarah Bernhardt , Carla Fracci and Alicia Alonso .
