Gran Torre Santiago (former name: Torre Costanera ) is a skyscraper in the city of Providencia , in the area of the capital of Chile , Santiago de Chile . At 300 meters, it is the tallest building in South America and part of the Costanera Center . The tower has 62 floors with 128,000 square meters of floor space for offices. The architect César Pelli (also known for Petronas Towers ) designed the building.
Construction of the building began in 2006. Due to the international economic crisis , construction work had to be stopped in January 2009, but it was resumed in December 2009. As a result, completion was delayed from 2011 to 2014. At the end of 2013, it was assumed in Santiago that commissioning could drag on until 2015 or even 2016. In spring 2014 the structure was largely completed.
Sky Costanera is the viewing platform and an attraction for visitors on floors 61 and 62 of the tower. It was opened on August 11, 2015 and has a glazed floor with a 360 ° panoramic view of Santiago. On a clear day you can see up to 50 km, that is, each end of the city (including the planes taking off from Santiago de Chile Airport ). The platform is open daily, including Sundays and public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and costs CLP 15,000 (approx. EUR 20 ) for adults . The last elevator goes up at 9 p.m.
