Grand-Bassam is a department of Ivory Coast , in the Sud-Comoé region in the Comoé district in the south-east of the country on the Atlantic Ocean .

The capital of the department is Grand-Bassam , the population is 179,063 people (2014 census). The department is divided into the municipalities of Grand-Bassam and Bonoua (simultaneously sub-prefectures) and the sub-prefecture of Bongo .

The old town of Grand-Bassam was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012.
