The Dendtler Island is a 21-km long and icy island before Eights Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It lies in the eastern section of the Abbot Ice Shelf between Farwell Island and the Fletcher Peninsula .

It was mapped through surveys of the United States Geological Survey and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1960 and 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after Major Robert Dendtler of the United States Army , coordination officer on the staff of the commander of the support units of the US Navy in Antarctica in Operations Deep Freeze in 1967 and 1968.
