Grand Corps Malade
Grand Corps Malade (born July 31, 1977 in Le Blanc-Mesnil , Seine-Saint-Denis , France ), actually Fabien Marsaud , is a French poetry slam artist and director. He has had his stage name, which translates as “big sick body”, since 2003, after an accident in 1997 partially paralyzed his abdomen.
Life
Marsaud grew up near Paris. In 1997, his vertebrae shifted when he failed to jump into a swimming pool, and his legs have been paralyzed ever since. In 1999 he managed to move on his own again with the help of a crutch, which has since become his trademark.
After entering the French slam scene in 2003, he took over the pseudonym "Grand Corps Malade" and went on stage for the first time in October in a Paris bar. He slowly gained a foothold and gained more and more awareness, also through various victories in slam competitions.
In 2004 he founded Le Cercle des Poètes sans Instru with six other colleagues (German: "The circle of poets without education"). The group consisted, among other things, of the members of the collective 129H , who were the pioneers of the genre in France. Together they performed at many music festivals. In 2005, Grand Corps Malade founded the Flow d'encre (German "Ink Stream") association and has been actively animating various writing and slam groups in social institutions, schools and retirement homes since then.
In 2005 a friend suggested that he write a musical accompaniment for his lyrics, whereupon Grand Corps Malade recorded his first album entitled Midi 20 (Eng. "20 after 12"). When the album was released on March 27, 2006, it quickly rose to the top of the charts.
After his first album, Grand Corps Malade embarked on a major tour of France, where he performed 120 times in front of a larger audience by the end of 2007. On March 10, 2007, at the Victoires de la Musique event, he was awarded the prizes for Newcomer of the Year and First Album of the Year ( artiste révélation de l'année and album révélation de l'année ). On March 31, 2008 his second album Enfant de la ville (German "Stadtkind") was released.
In 2016 he made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the film Lieber Leben . Mehdi Idir was co-director. The film is based on Malade's own life.
