Grazia Vittadini (* 1970 in Milan ) is manager and since May 2018 Chief Technology Officer (CTO) on the Executive Committee of the aerospace group Airbus .

Life

Vittadini grew up in Italy and the United States . From an early age she was interested in model airplanes and motorcycles. She studied aerospace engineering with a focus on aerodynamics at the Milan Polytechnic and holds a private pilot's license.

Work at Airbus

After completing her studies, Vittadini started her professional career on the Italian side of the Eurofighter consortium. In 2002 she switched to commercial aviation at Airbus Operations in Germany, where she quickly took on various management positions, including a. as Chief Engineer for equipping the wing high lift devices for the A380 . As Head of Major Structural Tests, she was also involved in awarding the first flight and type certificates for the A350 XWB . Vittadini also held positions as Head of Airframe Design and Technical Authority for all Airbus aircraft and Head of Corporate Audit & Forensic for all of the company's audit activities. Most recently, she was Head of Engineering on the Board of Management of the Airbus Defense and Space Division and in this role one of the deputies of the Division CEO Dirk Hoke.

In May 2018, Vittadini was appointed Airbus Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and, as a member of the Executive Committee, is responsible for the technical development and coordination of the entire group. One of their declared goals is to overcome fossil propulsion technologies and develop new technologies for environmentally friendly flying (e.g. hybrid and electronic propulsion). To cope with the growing complexity of aerospace technologies, Vittadini u. a. also on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing.

She is also a member of the Airbus Foundation Board of Directors and the Inclusion and Diversity Steering Committee. In addition, she was awarded the French Order of Merit “Légion d'honneur” (Legion of Honor) in 2017 and the “Woman of the Year in Business” award in 2018 from the French specialist magazine L'Usine Nouvelle.
