July 22 nd Movement

The July 22 nd Movement ( German  movement of July 22 was) a youth organization and mass organization in the West African nation of Gambia .

It was founded by the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) in July 1995 as part of the national program of political education and development, with numerous offices across the Gambia . The organization developed into a draft horse to promote the junta leader and presidential candidate Yahya Jammeh in the 1996 presidential election .

Its first chairman was until 1997 Tamsir Jallow , he took over in Parliament the function of the majority leader ( English Majority Leader ). Baba Jobe continued as director of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) youth department .

Formally July was 22 nd dissolved Movement in October 1999 because it was increasingly seen as a threat to Jammeh and his government. Elements of this movement, popularly known as the ' Green Boys ' ( German  Green Boys ; refers to the green party color of the APRC ), are still active in a similar way.
