The Green College was a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England . At its center was the Radcliffe Observatory , modeled on the ancient Tower of the Winds in Athens . The college was founded in 1979 and named after its main benefactors, Cecil H. Green and his wife, Ida Green. Green was the founder of Texas Instruments . Green College, Oxford, was one of two colleges he founded. The other college belongs to the University of British Columbia .

The Green College was dedicated to human welfare in contemporary society. The academic focus was therefore mainly on medicine . Environmental and social sciences were also pursued.

30% of the students studied medicine. About 20% of the graduates were engaged in medical research. Climate change and educational studies were two other focus areas at the college.

On July 3, 2007 it was announced that the Green College with the Templeton College should be merged on October 1, 2008 to the Green Templeton College with the old location of the Green College.
