Greenwich Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greenwich Castle was a royal palace in Greenwich Park in what is now the London borough of Greenwich in England .

A castle was built in 1433 and is said to have consisted of a residential tower with a moat . From 1525–1526 it was expanded into an elegant castle with at least two towers. It was used intensively during the time of King Henry VIII . Today the Royal Greenwich Observatory stands here . When this was built in 1675, the castle was demolished.

In Greenwich Castle, Henry VIII apparently liked to accommodate his mistresses , as the castle was not far from Greenwich Palace .
