Greg Ryan
Greg Ryan (born January 21, 1957 in Dallas , Texas, USA) was the head coach of the US women's national soccer team from 2005 to 2007 .
Ryan succeeded April Heinrichs . Under his leadership, the team reached the semi-finals of the 2007 World Cup against Brazil, in which he surprisingly replaced the goalkeeper Hope Solo with Briana Scurry . Ryan explained this with Scurry's greater experience. However, the US team lost the game 4-0, but were able to prevail in the game for third place against Norway.
His contract expired on December 31, 2007 and was not renewed. He was replaced by the Swede Pia Sundhage . Since February 2008, Ryan has been the head coach of the University of Michigan's women's soccer team .
