Briana Collette Scurry (born September 7, 1971 in Minneapolis ) is a former American football player . She played in the position of goalkeeper .

Briana Scurry was the goalkeeper of the US women's national soccer team from the mid-1990s to 2007 . She took part in the women's soccer world championships in 1995 (third place), 1999 (title) and 2003 (third place). In addition, participation comes to the Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta (Gold Medal), 2000 in Sydney (silver medal) and in 2004 in Athens (gold medal). She played 175 international matches, more than any other goalkeeper until August 3, 2014, then the record was set by the Scot Gemma Fay and topped on August 20, 2014. The number was only set to 175 games in August 2016 after the US federation, when reviewing its statistics, came across two international matches held in January 1995, which had not been taken into account until then and in which it was used. In some statistics that have not yet been updated, it is therefore still listed with 173 international matches.

From 2005 it was only used sporadically and at the 2007 World Cup it was only used in the semi-finals against Brazil and conceded four goals in the worst defeat of the US team. Since the goalkeeper Hope Solo, who had been used up until then, chalked up the defeat, she was not used in the game for third place and Scurry guarded the goal again in the 4-1 win against Norway.

She played her last international match on November 5, 2008 against South Korea. On June 30, 2015, she was replaced by Hope Solo as the record goalkeeper in the USA. In February 1999, on the occasion of the group draw for the 1999 World Cup, she played with the national team against a FIFA world team. The game is not counted as an official international match.
