Gregor Eisvogel
Gregor Eisvogel , born as Paul Eisvogel (born May 18, 1873 in Schaffhausen , † November 19, 1950 in Engelhartszell ) was a German religious and from 1931 to 1950 abbot of Engelszell Abbey .
Life
Eisvogel studied after joining the Oelenberg Abbey in Rome , where he was ordained a priest in 1906 and received his doctorate. After that he was theology lecturer and economic administrator in Ölenberg until the abbey was destroyed in World War I. After the end of the war, he went to the Banz monastery with the German monks who had been expelled from Ölenberg . In 1925 he took over the Cistercian Abbey of Engelszell in Upper Austria, which was secularized under Emperor Joseph II and was elected abbot there in 1931. After the abolition of the pen by the authorities in 1939, he was arrested, and after his release he was "expelled". After the end of the war in 1945 he returned with a third of the former monastic community and resumed monastic life.
