Gregor Günther (* before 1480 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † 1519 there ) was a German canon lawyer .

Life

After studying at the University of Leipzig , he obtained a bachelor's degree in law there in the 1480s . In 1498 he became an episcopal official and chief judge of Brandenburg in his hometown .

After the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt was founded in 1506, he was a member of its teaching staff. In 1509 and 1515 he was elected rector of the university. In addition to his teaching activities, he continued to exercise the office of official. In 1511 he was named as Vicar General of the Diocese of Brandenburg .

Günther is considered to be the author or initiator of the anti-Judaist pamphlet Warhrachtig Sumarius der gerichts hendel , in which the occasion, the process and the consequences of the Berlin host desecration process of 1510 are described. Presumably he was involved in this process in his church function.
