Border Guard Battalion III (Bromberg)
The Grenzschutz-Bataillon III was a paramilitary organization in the Weimar Republic . It was erected on January 1, 1919 in Bromberg .
history
At the end of November 1918, the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council and the High Command of the Bromberg garrison commissioned Captain Emil Just from the 2nd Pomeranian Foot Artillery Regiment No. 15 with the creation of the "Voluntary Security Service" to ensure order in the city should. The "Security Service" consisted of two companies with a total of 600 soldiers. The first company was commanded by Lieutenant Pansegrau, the second by Lieutenant Dost. On January 1, 1919, the "Security Service" was converted into Border Guard Battalion III. The aim of the battalion, which consisted of six companies, was to fight the Polish insurgents . The battalionwas dissolved on August 26, 1919, after the Treaty of Versailles was signed . It became part of the Reichswehr and was named III. 3rd Battalion Reichswehr Rifle Regiment 83.
