List of Berlin football champions of the VBB 1898–1911
The list of Berlin football champions of the VBB 1898-1911 includes all champions of the Association of Berlin Ball Game Clubs (VBB) from 1898 to 1911. On September 1, 1897, the association was named Association German Ball Game Clubs (VDB) as an alternative to German football and Cricket Bund (DFuCB) founded. On May 10, 1902, the name was changed to the Association of Berlin Ball Game Clubs . In the period that followed, other football associations emerged in Berlin, so that on April 29, 1911, the association merged with the Märkischer Fußball-Bund (MFB) and the Association of Berlin Athletics Associations (VBAV) to form the Association of Brandenburgischer Ballspielvereine (also VBB).
The Berlin football championship of the VBB was initially played in a group with a changing number of teams per season. In the 1901/02 season there were two groups of six teams each, the winners of which played the VBB football champions in final games. From the following season was played in a group of eight or from the 1908/09 season with nine teams.
At the beginning of football, no German football championship was played. This championship only existed from 1902/03 , for which the winners of the individual regional associations qualified, including the winners of the VBB. The Berlin football clubs also achieved great success across Germany and sometimes dominated the early years of German football, for example the BTuFC Britannia in 1892 advanced to the final in the second football championship played in 1903/04 , which, however, was not played. At the German football championship in 1904/05 , the BTuFC Union was able to prevail in 1892 and thus became the second German football champion. The BTuFC Viktoria 89 was the most successful VBB club in Germany with two German championship titles and two other finals.
