Greta Schiller (* 1954 in Detroit ) is an American film director.

biography

Born in Detroit in 1954, Greta Schiller studied at City University in New York . The independent filmmaker founded the film production company Jezebel Productions in New York in 1984 together with her partner, the author and filmmaker Andrea Weiss . She lives mostly in London and New York. In 1988 she received the first ever UK / US Fulbright Scholarship . She produces documentaries, but also films for television.

Her film Before Stonewall , a documentary about the American gay and lesbian movement , received an Emmy for Best Documentary in 1984 and she herself was nominated for Best Director . The documentaries about the history of the American jazz musicians Tiny & Ruby: Hell Divin 'Woman and Maxine Sullivan: Love to be in Love have also received multiple awards.
