Griffin Alexander Canning (born May 11, 1996 in Mission Viejo , California ) is an American baseball player who plays for the Los Angeles Angels in Major League Baseball (MLB) on the position of pitcher .

Career

Canning first played on the baseball team at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita . In 2014, his final year there, he was named Orange County Register Pitcher of the Year . In the 2015 MLB Draft , he was selected in the 38th round by the Colorado Rockies , where he never signed a contract and instead was active in baseball for the university team of the University of California, Los Angeles . Finally, he was again up for the MLB Draft 2017 and was therefore selected in the second round in a total of 47th position by the Los Angeles Angels .

In June 2017, he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels with a so-called signing bonus valued at $ 1,459,200 US dollars. Initially, however, the pitcher played in the minor leagues California League , Southern League and the highest-ranking Pacific Coast League . He made his MLB debut on April 30, 2019 against the Toronto Blue Jays .
