Grigory Anatoljewitsch Schkarupa ( Russian Григорий Анатольевич Шкарупа ; common transcription: Grigory Shkarupa ; born August 29, 1989 in Leningrad ) is a Russian opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Schkarupa graduated with honors from the Glinka Choir School in Saint Petersburg in 2007 and then studied singing, conducting and choral music at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory . In the opera studio of the Conservatory, he took on Gurnemanz in Wagner's Parsifal . At the age of 19 he made his debut at the Mariinsky Theater in his hometown - as a prisoner in Verdi's Nabucco . At this house he also performed Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen , Papa Leone in Verdi's Attila and the machinist in Janáček Věc Makropulos . He has also made guest appearances with Mariinsky in Spain, Israel, Germany and Lithuania.

In 2010 Schkarupa was accepted into the Young Artist Program of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater , where she sang the Second Armored Man in Schikaneder and Mozart's Magic Flute , the Cook and the Herald in Prokofiev's Love for the Three Oranges , the Doorman in Puccini's Tosca and the Mitjuch in Mussorgski's Boris Godunov . In Moscow's Tchaikovsky concert hall he appeared as Wilhelm in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann and as Baron Trombonok in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims . From August 2013 Grigori Schkarupa was a scholarship holder of the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation at the International Opera Studio of the State Opera in the Schiller Theater Berlin and has since been heard and seen at this house in a number of smaller roles, including La traviata , Candide , as 2nd Armored in the Magic Flute and as the 4th Jew in Salome , in Brecht / Weill's rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny , and also in Macbeth and Lulu . He has been a member of the State Opera ensemble since 2015.

In 2015 he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival , as Mandarin in Puccini's Turandot and as Don Alfonso in Mozart's Così fan tutte . He will sing the Mandarin in Bregenz again in 2016.
