Grigori Nikolajewitsch Teplov ( Russian Григорий Николаевич Теплов , scientific transliteration Grigorij Nikolaevič Teplov , * November 20 July / December 1,  1717 greg. In Pskow ; † March 30 July / April 10,  1779 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian civil servant, writer , philosopher and composer .

Life

Teplow was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and secretary to Tsarina Catherine the Great in Saint Petersburg . He acted as a negotiator for the Russian-English economic agreement of 1766 and wrote numerous memoranda on the liberalization of trade. In addition, he had a sound musical education and also worked publicly as a singer , harpsichordist and conductor .

In 1759 he published a collection of three-part songs that were published several times. The compositions are largely free of national-Russian influences and are based on Western European works by his contemporaries.
