Grigori Roshal ( Russian Григорий Львович Рошаль; born October 9 . Jul / 21st October  1899 greg. In Novozybkov , Russian Empire ; † 11. January 1983 in Moscow ) was a Russian theater and film director and screenwriter.

Roshal had acting lessons from Vsevolod Meyerhold . He then worked as a theater director, especially for plays for children. In 1926 he made his debut as a film director. In Germany he made the film Salamander in 1928 , a co-production by Prometheus Film and Meschrabpom . The film was not approved by the film testing agency in Germany and was only shown in the Soviet Union . His film activity in the Soviet Union, which lasted until 1968, includes numerous film biographies by composers and poets as well as literary adaptations .

Roshal was married to Vera Pavlovna Strojewa .
