Grimancelos is a locality and former municipality in northern Portugal .
history
In the absence of archaeological finds, not much is known about the origins of the place. His name is probably of Germanic origin, either from the time of the Reconquista or from his time in the Suebian Empire or the subsequent Visigoth Empire . The parish church dates from the 18th century, when Grimancelos was already an independent parish.
administration
Grimancelos is a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Barcelos , in the district of Braga . On June 30, 2011 the community had 794 inhabitants on an area of 3 km².
In the course of the regional reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipality of Grimancelos was merged with the municipalities of Minhotães , Monte de Fralães and Viatodos to form the new municipality of União de Freguesias de Viatodos, Grimancelos, Minhotães e Monte de Fralães . The headquarters of the new municipality became Viatodos.
