Monte de Fralães is a locality and former municipality in northern Portugal .

history

Rock paintings and other finds prove a prehistoric settlement. In the Castro culture , the fortified settlement of Lenteiro existed here. The current place name probably goes back to its name in the Visigoth Empire .

The independent administrative district of Fralães was established in the 14th century. After a relative heyday in the 16th and 17th centuries, Fralães lost its importance, especially during the troubled times in Portugal since the Napoleonic invasions in the early 19th century. In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the following Miguelistenkrieg , the district of Fralães was dissolved in 1836, and its two communities Monte de Fralães and Viatodos were annexed to Barcelos.
