Grimme monument

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grimme Monument , erected in 1906/7 with the support of the Sauerland Mountain Association , is located on Grimmestrasse in the center of Assinghausen , a district of Olsberg . The memorial commemorates the Westphalian local poet Friedrich Wilhelm Grimme (1827–1887), who was born in Assinghausen. The cast bronze portrait bust of Grimmes was created by the sculptor Albert Pehle (1874 in Lippstadt; † 1948 in Düsseldorf). In 1953 the monument was redesigned, the obelisk , the Westphalian steed on its tip and a damaged water basin were removed. On September 17, 2007 the memorial turned 100 years old.
