The Grimselwelt is an engagement in the tourism sector of Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG (KWO). KWO's power plants and former works railways that have been opened for tourism, as well as bridges, hiking trails, restaurants and hotels are marketed by KWO under the catchphrase Grimselwelt.

In 2010 the Grimselwelt received the most important Swiss tourism award, the Milestone . It was awarded first place in the main category “Outstanding Project”.

The Grimselwelt is located in the canton of Bern, on the Susten and Grimsel Alpine passes .

The power stations Grimsel 1 and 2, Handeck 1 to 3 and Innertkirchen 1 are open to visitors in summer and winter. The underworld of tunnels, shafts, machine rooms, turbines and generators as well as the inner workings of a dam can be visited.

On October 4, 1974, during excavation work for the access tunnel of the Grimsel II headquarters, the crystal fissure, estimated to be around 16 million years old, was discovered in the granite . Crystals were also destroyed during the excavation . The working group under Hans Anton Stalder (1925–2011) agreed that the entire mineral discovery site should be preserved. The site was guarded and walled up again. The Kristallkluft was only opened up after the completion of the power plant. Today it can be viewed in connection with a power plant tour. The crystals are twelve different types of crystals, including quartz , rose fluorite and rose quartz. The crystals are up to 20 centimeters long. It is the largest previously known gap in this composition.

Gelmerbahn

The Gelmerbahn (former works railway) is the steepest funicular in Europe with a 106% gradient. It is located on the Handeck (Grimselpassstrasse, above Guttannen) and leads up to the Gelmersee. The mountain station is the starting point for hikes and mountain tours.

The Tällibahn (former works railway) is located on the Sustenpassstrasse and leads directly to the foot of the Gadmer rock faces. The start of the Tälli via ferrata, the first via ferrata in Switzerland, and other hikes are at the mountain station.

Meiringen-Innertkirchen-Bahn (MIB)

The Meiringen-Innertkirchen-Bahn (MIB) is an integral part of the public transport system in Haslital. With its dense timetable (every half an hour) it provides the connection between Innertkirchen, Aare Gorge and Meiringen. The stops at the west and east entrances of the Aare Gorge allow visitors to travel to and from the gorge tour.

Reichenbachfallbahn

Handeckfall Bridge

The Trift Bridge is 170 meters one of the most spectacular suspension bridges in the Alps. From the bridge you can see the turquoise blue glacial lake and the tongue of the Trift glacier.

Handeckfall Bridge

The suspension rope bridge allows a view of the waterfall 70 meters above the Handeckfall gorge. Located at the valley station of the Gelmerbahn, the bridge is the ideal connection to the Hotel Handeck.

Restaurants and hotels

In addition to the many adventure offers, Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG offers two hotels, two restaurants, a mountain house and a holiday and alpine hut.

The exhibition "Future of electricity - electricity in the future!" At the historic Alpinhotel Grimsel Hospiz shows interesting facts about electricity production from hydropower and how energy resources can be used more efficiently in the future.
