Grind Line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grind Line was an attack line of the Detroit Red Wings ice hockey team from the North American NHL . The series was modeled after the "Crash Line" of the New Jersey Devils from 1995 and put together by trainer Scotty Bowman .

She had the property of doing the so-called dirty work, such as preventing attacks by the opponent through body checks and particularly hard play and wearing the opponent down. Most of the time the "Grind Line" played against the most playful row of the opposing team.

The original "Grind Line" consisted of Kirk Maltby , Kris Draper and Joe Kocur in the mid-1990s . In the battle for the 1997 Stanley Cup , the series was particularly effective against the so-called "Legion of Doom" series of the Philadelphia Flyers around Eric Lindros , John LeClair and Mikael Renberg . In the end you won the Stanley Cup.

At the beginning of the 1997/98 season Joe Kocur was replaced by Darren McCarty in the "Grind Line". In this new formation, the series existed until 2005 and helped win two more Stanley Cups. After the lockout , McCarty was paid his contract in the summer of 2005 and he had to look for a new team. So far no new "Grind Line" could be formed that lived up to this name.
