Greater German party

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Greater German Party was a political party in Germany that sought a unified empire on a federal basis and with the inclusion of Austria , the so-called Greater Germany .

The party was formed in contrast to the small Germans , whose goal was the unification of Germany under the leadership of Prussia without Austria participating. This contrast first became clear in the Frankfurt National Assembly . Following the formation of the National Association , which sought to realize the goals of the Small Germans , around 500 supporters of the Greater Germans gathered on October 28, 1862 in Frankfurt am Main and founded the German Reform Association there . This association consisted mostly of southern Germans who were positive about Austria's concerns and supported the Austrian reform project in 1863.

After the founding of the North German Confederation , the Greater Germans agitated for a southern alliance , but lost all importance after German unification in 1870/1871 .
