The Großenhain Berl Bf train station ( "Berlin Station") is a as a station classified operating agency of the railway track Dresden-Friedrichstadt Elsterwerda and the branching here connecting train to Großenhain Cottb Bf . Scheduled travel at the station has been discontinued since 2002 in favor of the Cottbus station, which is closer to the city.
history
The station was opened on June 17, 1875 when operations began on the main Berlin – Dresden line.
Until 1996 it had two continuous main tracks and four side tracks, each with a ramp, a loading street and a separate locomotive shed on the other side of the station. The sidings fell victim to the subsequent dismantling . The old locomotive shed was torn down on the occasion of the state horticultural show that took place in Großenhain in 2002 . Since the timetable change on December 14, 2002, passenger trains have stopped at Grossenhain Berliner Bahnhof after the responsible Upper Elbe transport association canceled the local transport services on the section between Coswig and Grossenhain on the Berlin-Dresden Railway. Since then, the local trains on the Dresden – Elsterwerda route have been running via Priestewitz and Großenhain Cottb Bf. They use a connecting train between the two Großenhain stations that was previously only used for freight traffic. In the course of the removal of a level crossing at the signal box and the construction of a bridge for a planned bypass road, the switches for the overtaking tracks were also removed in 2006. This means that only the two main tracks, including the branch to the Cottbus train station, are still in operation.
The trains on lines RE 15, RE 18 and RB 31 ran again in July / August 2013 due to renovation work at the Cottbus train station in Großenhain with a stop at the Berlin train station. For this purpose, the platforms and crossings were repaired, a ticket machine was set up and security personnel were employed.
