location

It is located in the southern part of the city center of Aschersleben, south of the St. Stephen's Church between the Stephanikirchhof in the north and the Hopfenmarkt street to the south. In the northern part of the Großer Halken flows from the east, the small, also listed alley Kleiner Halken . In the area of the confluence, in the area of the Großer Halken 8 property, there is a small square-like extension in which a large oak stands. In addition to the buildings Großer Halken 1, 4, 5 and 7, the houses Großer Halken 2 , 3 and 6 , which are designated as individual monuments, are part of the monument area.

History and architecture

The name Halken goes back to small market halls or sales stalls called Hallechen , which were built in the 13th century south of the St. Stephen's Church. The resulting permanent stalls were converted into houses and later expanded. The result is the very small-scale urban quarter.

The narrow alley is built on on both sides by two to three-story buildings that were built between the 16th and 19th centuries. Small craftsmen and traders ran their businesses in the alley. Until the beginning of the 1860s, clothier shops dominated . The Falkenhagen store was located at number 3 until the 1990s .

However, several of the buildings are empty today (as of 2016) and are in urgent need of renovation. There is a risk of the loss of buildings, which would seriously affect the monument area.

In the local monument register, the street is recorded as a monument area under registration number 094 80460.
