The Great Varchentiner See is located north of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The lake belongs entirely to the municipality of Groß Plasten . The municipality of Faulenrost borders the water in the west . The lake is a maximum of 1,600 meters wide and 1,500 meters long. It has a barely articulated circular shape. In the south the tributary flows from the Kleiner Varchentiner See and in the east the Hasselbach. The outflow of the lake in the north drains to the Kittendorfer Peene. The lake shore is completely surrounded by a belt of reeds and wooded on the south shore. The west bank is swampy. The village of Clausdorf, part of the municipality of Kittendorf, is located on the north bank .
