The large stone graves near Haaren (also called large stone graves near Dübberort ) are three between 3500 and 2800 BC. Systems of the Neolithic Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) developed near the Haaren district in the district of Osnabrück ( Lower Saxony ), which belongs to the Ostercappeln community . Graves 1 and 2 bear the Sprockhoff numbers 906 and 907. Only remains of the third, unnumbered grave are preserved.

location

Grave 1 is west of the Dübberort residential area belonging to Haaren on the edge of a field. The remains of grave 3 were discovered about 40 m southeast of this in 1976. Grave 2 is about 320 m southwest of grave 1 in a forest. There are other graves in the vicinity: there is a burial mound about halfway between graves 2 and 3 . description

Grave 1

The grave has a north-west-south-east oriented mound bed with a length of 30 m and a width of 6.5 m. The maximum height of the mound is 1.0 m. The setting is incomplete, but most of the 24 stones present are in situ . The megalithic bed hides a large, well-preserved chamber, which is a passage grave. It has a length of 10.4 m and a width between 1.5 m and 1.7 m. According to Ernst Sprockhoff, the chamber in its original state had six wall stones on the north-eastern long side, seven on the south-western, one end stone each on the narrow sides, six cap stones and a corridor in the middle of the south-western long side with a pair of wall stones and a cap stone. All stones except one capstone have probably been preserved. Except for the two end stones and four stones each on the long sides, all the wall stones of the chamber and the corridor are hidden in the ground. At the north-western end of the chamber excavations were carried out around 1890.

Grave 2

Grave 2 has a long oval, roughly east-west oriented mound with a stone border that is no longer complete. The mound is almost completely occupied by a chamber, which also belongs to the type of passage grave. It has a length of 15 m and a width of 1.8 m. E. Sprockhoff assumes originally ten bearing stones on the northern and eleven on the southern long side, one end stone each on the narrow sides, nine cap stones and a corridor in the middle of the south side with a pair of wall stones and a cap stone. Since the chamber is deep in the earth, it cannot be said exactly how many stones there are. At least seven wall stones are visible on the north side, two or three in situ, and six on the south side, four of them in situ. Seven capstones are still on the chamber, the other two were dragged north, outside the enclosure.

Grave 3

In 1976, to the southeast of grave 1, the remains of a third grave were discovered, which is only barely recognizable as a very flat, oval hill. Stones can no longer be seen. During the excavation of the still was granite - Grus existing pavement of the grave chamber made out. Ceramics, several axes and other implements came to light.
