history

The village of Haaren was first mentioned as Haren in 1068 . It does not take its name from the noble von Haren family , who first settled on Gut Kuhof in Haaren in the 15th century (the family's coat of arms, three spindles, can still be seen on the Kuhof manor today). However, one can assume a much earlier settlement, since many barrows can be found in Haaren . In the Middle Ages, clearing led to the establishment of a farming community. This has been part of the Ostercappeln parish since 1306. Haaren has had its own Catholic school since the beginning of the 19th century, which was operated until 1969.

Bomb crater in the forest near the railroad

During the Second World War, the Allies dropped many bombs on hair because the railway line that still exists today, which connects Bremen with Osnabrück, was supposed to be destroyed. Therefore numerous bomb craters can still be seen next to the train route.

After the Second World War and the accompanying expulsion or flight of Germans from what was then East Prussia and the Soviet occupation zone , the population rose rapidly, so that there was not enough living space available and many refugees had to live in emergency shelters. Therefore, the local council at the time decided that new living space had to be advertised. This was done in 1949 and the Bergfrieden and Waldesruh settlements were established . At that time one square meter cost only 0.49 DM. However, the new settlements had no connection to the city water supply, as the settlements were built by the Haarenern on their own.

In 1969 the Haaren school was closed due to a lack of students. Since then, the people of Haaren have had to attend school in Ostercappeln .

On July 1, 1972, Haaren was incorporated into the Ostercappeln community.

The settlement areas were connected to the municipal water supply in 1987 and in 1994 to the newly built sewage treatment plant in Schwagstorf .

After the turn of the millennium, the owners of the Voltermann farm decided to plan a biogas plant. The construction should be completed in 2007, which would have cost a total of 1.5 million euros. After completion, at least 3 tractor loads of manure or maize would have been required to keep the plant in operation. However, this project failed because the Haaren population was against this project. One of the main arguments was that the infrastructure was not designed for such deliveries because the roads are too narrow. In addition, the biogas plant would be located directly at the Nettequellen , which was also a reason for the resentment of the population. Two residents and the Naturschutzbund Deutschland have already filed a lawsuit against Voltermann.

The telecommunications company for the district of Osnabrück (short: Telkos) announced in 2010 that it would make DSL available in the entire Osnabrück region. According to Telkos, a data transfer rate of at least 2048 kbit / s should be available everywhere in five years. The “Schwagstorf, Haaren, Broxten” construction phase, which includes 405 households, is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2011.

Industry

Slate has been used in hair since the 19th century. In 1850 Colonen Simon expanded the existing brickworks . Paul Stölting buys this brick factory in 1892 and founded on what is now Bremerstraße the Brickyard Stölting . Many hair people had their jobs here.

In 1961, Rolf Plümacher from Düsseldorf took over the facility. He modernized them and exchanged the old ring kilns for new tunnel kilns. In addition, the production of bricks was stopped and ceramics were made. The company was renamed accordingly to ammonit ceramics .

Association

In Haaren there is the Haarener SC football club and also the motorsport friends Haaren .

Haarener SC was founded on June 3, 1962 and currently has around 140 members. The greatest success of the club was the promotion to the district league in 1992. Currently, the first team of Haarener SC takes part in the game in the second district class and the second team in the game in the third district class. In addition, several events take place at the club's clubhouse each year, such as B. the Advent bazaar, the flea market and of course the penalty cup.

Population development

According to traditional records, Haaren only had 54 tax-paying residents in 1512. The population rose steadily and in 1905 reached a value of 323 people. In 1939, the number of inhabitants decreased to 183, as many were drafted into the armed forces to serve in the German Reich in World War II .

After the end of the war, the number of inhabitants in Haaren doubled from 323 in 1905 to 614, as many refugees found a new home in Haaren. Due to the refugees, the Bergfrieden and Waldesruh settlements were created in 1949 because there was no longer enough living space available. The property price at that time was 0.49 DM / m².
