Great stone graves near Neustadt am Rübenberge
The megalithic graves near Neustadt am Rübenberge were two megalithic tombs of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region ( Lower Saxony ). They were destroyed after 1821.
location
The graves were between Neustadt and Schneeren , on the road to Nienburg (Weser) at the Aschenkrug. They were partly surrounded by moor . There were originally several other large stone graves in the immediate vicinity: to the west were the large stone graves at Schneeren and the large stone graves near Mardorf , to the north, and to the north was the large stone grave at Borstel .
description
Both graves had east-west orientated barren beds with a length of 55 feet (approx. 16 m) and a width of 10 feet (approx. 3 m). Both burial chambers had five capstones, the largest of which were at the western end. The largest capstone was 11 feet (3.2 m) long and 5 feet (1.5 m) wide. The exact type of grave of the complex cannot be determined with certainty, but due to its size it must have been large dolmen or passage graves .
