Grooverider (* 16th April 1967 in London as Raymond Bingham ) is a British drum-and-bass - DJ and producer.
Live and act
Grooverider was already active as a DJ on the pirate channel Phaze One in the 1980s . He played hip-hop , soul and later also house there. He also played at illegal house parties in the London Underground. In 1991 he started playing in clubs together with DJ Fabio . The sound of the two changed from originally dark hardcore (gloomy breakbeat ) to jungle and then to drum and bass, which they played a major role in shaping. In 1994 Grooverider founded his own label Prototype Records and released records by Dillinja , Photek and Ed Rush . In 2001, in addition to his worldwide bookings, he had a weekly drum and bass broadcast on BBC Radio 1 with DJ Fabio .
In November 2007, after arriving at Dubai International Airport, 2.16 grams of cannabis was found in his luggage. According to current United Arab Emirates law , he was sentenced to four years in prison. Grooverider was finally released after four months in September 2008.
