Grotta di San Michele

The Grotta di San Michele in Ozieri in the province of Sassari in Sardinia is an approximately 80 m long limestone cave that was partially destroyed when Domus de Janas were carved into the rock. The Ozieri culture (formerly also known as the "San Michele culture") is named after the cave . It was founded in the Neolithic between 3,200 and 2,800 BC. Existed.

Excavations have been carried out since 1914 and in 1949. The pottery found in the cave is technically perfect and is well above the level of the pottery of the subsequent cultures, in particular the manufacture and decoration (with concentric semicircles) of stone vessels is of high quality. The decoration of the pottery is influenced by cultural contacts with the various peoples of the Mediterranean. Among the finds, a kind of decorated ciborium is of great importance. The finds are shown in the Museo Nazionale GA Sanna in Sassari .
