The Ermewa Holding SA , based in Levallois-Perret is an international freight transport - and logistics group , which the French State Railways since 2010. SNCF belongs. Its activities include the four areas of freight wagon rental, tank container rental, forwarding, and the construction, maintenance and repair of railway wagons .

The company is divided into the business areas Ermewa (freight car rental), Eurotainer (tank container) and Inveho (maintenance and engineering).

In total, Ermewa manages more than 21,000 freight wagons, 23,000 tank containers as well as 15,000  IBCs and small pressure vessels .

The freight wagons are used in particular to transport sugar, grain and liquid food, granules and powdered products, as well as mineral oil products, liquid gas and chemical products. The freight wagons are both rented and used for our own forwarding orders. The tank containers are mainly used to transport liquid food, liquid chemicals and liquid gases. The IBC and small pressure vessel fleet is used for various transports in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and chemical sectors. The Ermewa Group also operates workshops for the construction, maintenance and repair of rail cars.

The group of companies employs around 650 people in its 36 companies in 30 countries and in 2009 generated sales of 361 million euros.

history

The company was founded in 1956 and initially focused on transporting wine in tank cars . In 1970 the company Leduc SA, which specializes in the transport, transit and storage of wine products, was taken over and an office opened in Paris a year later. In 1978 the marine transport division was restructured and partnerships with other shipping companies were entered into.

In 1981 Groupe Ermewa entered the railway sector with the acquisition of a park with 1,000 freight cars in France . The company subsequently experienced strong external growth through the takeover of various companies active in this field. In 1989 the SATI group with 10,000 freight wagons, in 1991 the ARBEL wagon fleet with 1,100 freight wagons for the transport of bulk goods and in the same year 2,500 freight wagons through the privatization of the park of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , in 1992 the Compagnie Auxiliaire du Midi with freight wagons for food and beverages Sugar, tank containers, port facilities and, in 1996, the freight wagon fleet for grain and sugar of the BRAMBLES group .

In 1992 the French SNCF took a 10 percent stake in Ermewa France and increased its stake in 1998 to 33.2 percent. The following year, SNCF acquired 45 percent of Groupe Ermewa and later increased its stake to 49.6 percent.

Between 2000 and 2003, Groupe Ermewa expanded internationally by establishing logistics locations in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. In 2003 the maritime transport division of the group was sold.

Also in 2003, the private equity company Investors in Private Equity acquired a majority stake of 50.4 percent in Groupe Ermewa. SNCF has been the sole shareholder since 2010.

On January 1, 2016, Ermewa took over CTC ( Compagnie de Transports de Céréales ) and SGW ( Société de Gérance de Wagons de grandes capacités ).
