The Groupe Hersant Média (GHM) is a French media company. The company has had this name since October 2006; previously it traded under Groupe France Antilles .

The group of companies

In order to comply with the French law against concentration in the press, the so-called loi Fillioud-Mauroy , the former Groupe Hersant was split into two companies in 1985. The Groupe Hersant controlled at that time 38% of the national French press and some 20% of the national press. Socpresse and Groupe France Antilles emerged from the division . Socpresse was 87% taken over by Groupe Dassault in March 2004 and is now wholly owned by Groupe Dassault , while Groupe France Antilles remained owned by the Hersant family.

Philippe Hersant , son of the company's founder Robert Hersant , is the chairman of the board . Frédéric Aurand is the chairman of the board . Like his father, Robert Hersant also tries to increase the company's ownership through acquisitions . Just like his father, he behaves publicly and generally does not give interviews.

The turnover of the Group amounted to 618 million euros in 2004 and 683 million euros in 2006. With the acquisition of the newspapers La Provence and Nice Nice-Matin in 2007, grew sales to over 900 million euros.

The regional daily press is where Groupe Hersant started out. These include the newspapers Champagne-Ardennes , L'Union in Reims , L'Ardennais , La Picardie , L'Aisne Nouvelle , La Normandie , Paris-Normandie , Le Havre Libre and Le Havre Presse . In addition to these titles, which are all located in northern France, a number of southern French newspapers were added on August 13, 2007 through the acquisition of the daily newspapers of the Groupe Lagardère , including La Provence , Nice-Matin and its offshoots Var-Matin and Corse-Matin . The portfolio comprises a total of 27 stocks (as of July 2009).

Until 2007 the group owned a portfolio of regional weekly newspapers in western France and Normandy . These included La Renaissance - Le Bessin , Les Nouvelles de Falaise , Le Pays d'Auge , L'Orne Combattante , La Voix - Le Bocage , La Dépêche (in the Evreux - Louviers - Verneuil-sur-Avre area) , Le Courrier de l 'Eure , Le Journal d'Elbeuf and L'Action Républicaine . This portfolio was sold to the Publihebdos group on August 29, 2007 . The only thing that remains with Hersant is the three-weekly L'Aisne Nouvelle .

TV and radio stations

The group is the sole owner of Antennes locales , a leading provider of regional television programs. These include Cap 24 in the Paris area, téléGrenoble , Canal 32 in Troyes and CityzenTV in Caen . These activities go back to 2004, when the group initially acquired a 34% stake in Antennes locales from its founders Jacques Rosselin and Emmanuel des Moutis and from Pierre Bergé. The group also has equity interests in TV8 Mont-Blanc and Antilles Télévision .

Groupe Hersant Média has eight radio stations:

Advertising press

In May 2003, France Antilles acquired the Comareg portfolio from Vivendi Universal . The 280 advertising-financed regional free newspapers have since been run under the ParuVendu title.
