Grover Gibson (born November 18, 1978 in Fairfax , Virginia ) is a retired American football player.

Career

The midfielder played for DC United in his youth . During his high school years at CD Hylton High School in Woodbridge , Virginia , he played for the Richmond Strikers and Braddock Road SC , before moving to Germany for VfB Stuttgart in 1996 at the age of 17 . First he played at VfB Stuttgart in the A-Jugend and became South German champion. He stayed with VfB Stuttgart and signed a two-year contract with the second team. There he rose with the second team in the Regionalliga Süd and played another year as a regular player in the Regionalliga.

In 1999 Gibson left Stuttgart for FC Augsburg . There he became a regular player again at the age of 20. Despite qualifying for the new double-track regional league, FC Augsburg filed for bankruptcy. Then he moves to SV Elversberg . After playing 57 regional league games and scoring five goals, the second division club 1. FSV Mainz 05 signed the American in 2002 . He played one season in Mainz; Due to a serious knee injury, however, he only made four appearances in the professional team and rose with the second team to the Regionalliga Süd. Then Grover Gibson returned to SV Elversberg, which he left in 2004 for league rival SSV Jahn Regensburg . Until 2006 it kept him in Regensburg; During the 2005/06 season Gibson moved to Preußen Münster .

For the 2006/07 season, the American moved to Kickers Emden . There he came to eight regional league appearances and scored one goal. His contract, which ran until 2007, was terminated by mutual agreement. In the winter break of 2006/07 he moved back to Münster and played again for Preußen Münster, where his contract expired in June 2007. On August 31, 2007 Gibson was signed by Rot Weiss Ahlen . The contract, which expired in 2009, was not extended. After his contract was terminated, he retired due to an eye socket injury and went back to the United States. In March 2012 he made his comeback as a playing assistant coach at the Fredericksburg Hotspur; there he met the former Bundesliga professional Evans Wise .

Gibson played 14 games in the second division and over 150 regional league games.

International

Gibson is a multiple U-17 and U-20 national player in the United States .

Coaching career

After retiring and returning to the United States, he became the youth coach of the Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association (FASA). In February 2012 he became a playing assistant coach at the USL club Fredericksburg Hotspur. Since 2013 he has coached the National Premier Soccer League club RVA FC .
