The Antonius mine is a former non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberg ore district . It was on the northern outskirts of Markelsbach in the municipality of Much in the Rhein-Sieg district .

history

As early as 1789, mining on the so-called Antoniusgrube is documented by a Ründeroth trade union. The Société d'Antony of Charles Rochaz promoted from 1842 to 1847 with 78 miners on a ten-meter Erzmittel siderite, sphalerite and galena. The operation was then discontinued. In 1854 the mine was taken over by the Gertrudensegen union and operations resumed. In 1878 operations were stopped again. In 1935 it was reopened as the Nikolaus-Phönix mine together with the Gertrudensegen and Emanuel mines .
