history

At the beginning of the 19th century it became technically possible to turn zinc ore into high-quality metal . As a result, a real zinc rush developed in the entire ore district of Bensberg in the middle of the 19th century. Everywhere one searched for corresponding deposits and found one on the so-called gold knipping between Markelsbach and Scheid. On June 15, 1855, here at the Société d'Antony of Charles Rochaz a treasure trove of 80 Lach Tern on lead and zinc ores awarded . When sinking a shaft, a place was found at a depth of 20 m where mining had already been carried out in the Middle Ages , about which there are no records. In the first excavation 162½ tons were up month-end pile promoted. Nothing is known about the further dismantling .

In 1871 the Emanuel mine was merged with the Gertrudensegen mine . In 1878 the company ceased. In 1935, it was reopened as the site for the Nikolaus-Phönix mine together with the Gertrudensegen and Antonius mines .
