Königswart mine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Königswart mine (Johann Friedrich Fundgrube) is a former mine in Schönegründ (municipality of Baiersbronn ) in the northern Black Forest. The pit is located below the Königswart ruins . The first mention is in 1488, when the Margrave Christopher of Baden, the mining law of Schwaz and Sterzing awarded . It is likely, however, that the pit is much older. From 1595 the mine belonged to Württemberg.

Mined mainly were silver-bearing ores . Together with Neubulach and Christophstal ( Freudenstadt ), it was the most important mining site for silver on Württemberg territory. All three deposits mainly contain pale ores . The ores also contained iron that was smelted in the hammer mills and blast furnaces in Christophstal.
