The Thalsbach mine (also Talsbach ) was an ore mine in the Siegen district of Eiserfeld in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district . The pit was one of numerous pits on the Gilberg between Eiserfeld and the formerly independent town of Hengsbach .
history
Ore was mined from 1650. This right was reassigned in 1825. In 1851 there was a consolidation between the pits Thalsbach , Schwere Wahl , Alte Thalsbach , Junge Thalsbach and Unterste Thalsbach . Another consolidation occurred with the Fatherland mine, which was built in 1855 . In 1861 a deep tunnel with a length of 500 m was created. In 1874 the mine went to the "Elberfelder Handelsgesellschaft".
Civil engineering began in 1874 in the same year. The shaft was 3.25 × 3.5 m and reached a depth of 315 m. After the pit was closed, it was not backfilled. In 1885 there were soles at depths of 40, 70, 100 and 140 m. In the same year 5,635 t of Spateisenstein were mined. In 1890 the best production rate was achieved with 11,690 t of Spateisenstein. Between 1897 and 1919 there was a shutdown. On August 19, 1925, the production was stopped, between January and August 4,790 tons of iron ore were extracted. Up to 1926, up to 80 staff members worked in the mine.
Six individual means with a total length of 194 m served as aisle means. In the north the corridors were 1 m thick, in the middle 3 m and in the south 0.6–1 m.
