The Dechen mine is a former lignite mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Gronau district .

history

On 24 March 1858, the representative of Bergisch Gladbach handed zinc smelter , Carl Julius Chevrement, a presumption of lignite with the name "Adrian" in Oberbergamt one in Bonn. Because the amount of lignite worth building was not found during the subsequent exploration work, a renewed request for encouragement with the name "Adrian modo von Dechen" was made at another location on November 19, 1858 . The ceremony of the brown coal deposit "in the finger calibration in Bergisch Gladbach" took place on 18 June 1859 under the name of Dechen.

business

No information is available on the operation of the mine.

Location and relics

The mining area of Dechen stretched from the zinc smelter west to this Gronauer cemetery. The brown coal has been mined in the area between Robert-Schuman-Strasse and Lutonstrasse up to the railway embankment. Old people from Gladbach tell that there used to be five ponds in a row here. They went swimming in two of them after the Second World War. The area was called "et Ei" (the egg). With the development of the site, the traces of mining have disappeared.
