The basic planer is a special type of hand plane for straightening lower-lying wood levels in wood connections such as overlapping , grooves or the surfaces of tenons .

How the basic plane works

The mode of operation is based on a plane iron protruding from under the plane sole, which is constantly guided parallel to the plane sole and thus cleans or straightens the ground. The English name router plan also suggests that since in most cases here, an electric router (Engl. Router is) used.

Construction methods of planers

The plane body can be made of wood as well as metal - mostly cast iron . In the case of commercial products, the blade is usually held at the set height by screwing. In some versions, the blade depth can be adjusted more precisely with an additional thread after loosening the locking screw. With the others, the plane iron is moved by hand. The planing knife is usually bent, so that the main part of the knife rests vertically in the planer body and the angled cutting edge has a better cutting angle to the wood.

The principle of a basic planer can also be implemented with a type of guided chisel when building it yourself .
