Jo Sung-hee (* 1979 ) is a South Korean film director .

Life

Jo Sung-hee studied at the Korean Academy of Film Arts . In 2010 his graduation film End of Animal , starring Lee Min-ji and Park Hae-il , was released. This received great critical acclaim in South Korea and internationally during its festival run. In Germany the film is distributed by Rapid Eye Movies .

Published in 2012 with Jo A Werewolf Boy his first commercial film, a fantasy - romance with Song Joong-ki and Park Bo-young . The film is set in a small town in Korea in the 1960s, in which a young girl finds an animal boy who can neither read nor speak. She teaches him human behavior. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and reached more than seven million moviegoers in South Korea. Jo won the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Director .

In 2015, Jo released the genre mix Phantom Detective . In the summer of 2020, Space Sweepers, the first South Korean space opera, will be released, with Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-ri in the lead roles.
