Kim Tae-ri (born April 24, 1990 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actress .
Life
Kim studied journalism and broadcasting at Kyung Hee University and originally wanted to be a news anchor. During her studies, she took many part-time and summer jobs and worked for a newspaper, in a cinema, as well as in cafes and fast-food restaurants.
She first appeared in plays in 2013 and made her film debut in 2015 as the silent girl in Moonyoung , which premiered at the 2015 Seoul Independent Film Festival. In 2016 she played the title role in the film The Handmaiden by Park Chan-wook, alongside Kim Min-hee and Ha Jung-woo . In it, she plays a pickpocket who is supposed to help a con man to make a rich heiress fall in love with him. When she is hired as the rich woman's maid, however, the two gradually fall in love. At the casting, she prevailed against around 1,500 other candidates. For the role, she received the Blue Dragon Award , the Director's Cut Award and the Bu-il Film Award in the category Best Young Actress in 2016 .
2017 she played in the film 1987 under the direction of Jang Joon-hwan on the side of Kang Dong-Won , Ha Jung-woo and Kim Yun-seok one of the main roles. The film is based on the death of the activist Park Jong-chul , who campaigned for democracy in South Korea. He follows the activities of the group that brings to light the truth about death.
Kim also got the lead role in the film Little Forest directed by Lim Soon-rye. The film is based on the manga of the same name by Daisuke Igarashi and was released in 2018. In Little Forest , she plays Hye-won, who is tired of city life and moves back to her home village. The character searches for her soul and finds the courage to live again. Kim described the filming as positive and enjoyed working with actors of the same age.
Kim's next two projects are science fiction films : the space adventure Space Sweepers , directed by Jo Sung-hee , in which Kim will star alongside Song Joong-ki , and the time travel two-part Alien by Choi Dong-hoon .
